The Hemi to Total Shoulder course is designed to orient the participant to the safe and effective use of the implant and associated instrumentation. This program focuses on teaching surgical techniques and tactics associated with total shoulder arthroplasty. In particular this course instructs participants in patient positioning, adequate humeral and glenoid exposure, humeral resection, reaming and rasping and implant placement. - explain the philosophy of the Bigliani/Flatow The Complete Shoulder Solution
- identify patient indications and contraindications for total shoulder arthroplasty
- describe the delto-pectoral surgical approach to total shoulder arthroplasty in terms of: incision, exposing deltoid and pectoralis muscle, avoiding damage to the axillary nerve, retractor placement in the subacromial space and humeral head exposure
- describe humeral head preparation in terms of: exposure, dislocation, reaming, resection, proper approach to identifying relevant anatomical landmarks, avoiding damage to the axillary nerve and placement of the stem
- explain glenoid preparation in terms of exposure, center of glenoid vault, sizing, reaming, and peg/keel placement
- describe potential risks and complications associated with total shoulder arthroplasty
